Talk Tableau to Me Part 2: When Birds Collide with Voice

The prototype viz that I posted here a few days ago has created lots of excitement. I've had a number of people email and message me about it, so I thought I would post a part 2. In this example, I showcase one of my all-time favorite Tableau visualizations, When birds and planes collide, by Tableau Zen Master Kelly Martin. I've always loved her visualization, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to showcase her viz with the added feature of voice recognition using the Tableau Javascipt API, annyang.js and responsivevoice.js.

As a reminder, the voice control requires the Chrome browser and a microphone or webcam on your computer, which you will have to grant access to at the top of your browser. I have set this up over an SSL link so that permission is only granted once and the connection is secure.

Click here to explore her famous visualization and try speaking these terms:

   "select Ohio" (or any state)
"filter Dawn" (or any time of day in the legend)
   "remove filters"
   "show all"
   "export"
   "start over"

Now that she speaks, I decided to name her Tabitha.

I hope you enjoy Kelly's viz with the new functionality. If you have any questions feel free to email me at Jeff@DataPlusScience.com
